The Floor Walk Worksheet
One shift. One area. Find the work worth improving.
Follow the work, with the team
Choose one area: the dispatch desk, the front counter, or the service bay. Tell the team what you are observing and why. Observe the process rather than ranking individuals.
Record each recurring task that touches a screen, a phone, or paper. Note the time, task, minutes spent, and whether information is retyped, someone is being chased, or an output needs checking. Do not change the process while measuring its baseline.
Ask: "If an extra pair of hands could take one part of your day, which part would you hand over?"
After the shift: compare three tasks
Record the current workload, not a promise of what automation will save.
Current workload: 0.0 hours per week
Estimated annual labor value: $0
Hours = frequency x minutes / 60. Labor value uses the hourly cost you enter and your working-week assumption. This is not cash savings or projected return. Checking, corrections, maintenance, software costs, and adoption affect any future benefit.
Choose a first task together
Look for a recurring job with reasonably consistent steps, an output a person can review, and a team that would welcome the help. Review time must fit the risk; there is no universal one-minute safety threshold.
Edited from Revival Group's Floor Walk worksheet: observation is transparent, labor-value estimates are not savings, and review stays proportionate to risk.
